He Tātai Rangahua - The Food and Fibre Youth Network
Late last year the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) contracted New Zealand Young Farmers (NZYF) to establish and implement a food and fibre youth network (and council) to provide a formalised pan-sector voice to raise industry issues and provide input into critical decisions related to the future of the sector.
To that end, late last year, NZYF drew together an initial foundation group to initiate discussion and planning for the project with the aim of establishing a formal pan sector network in 2021 to allow this to happen.
This group will be formally established in April 2021 and be called:
“The Food and Fibre Youth Network – He Tātai Rangahua.”
Our Foundation group included representatives from: Tāne Mahuta Aotearoa Limited, Federated Farmers, NZ Young Farmers, Ministry for Primary Industries, Grass Roots Media, A Director and Ag Economist, Beaumaris Dairies, Go Hort, Horticulture NZ, PrimaryITO, GrowingNZ/PICA, KPMG, Fonterra and, Beef + Lamb NZ. The outcome of this meeting framed up some thinking around the following headings:
- Possible Goals
- How do we make it real?
- Key Risks
- Other points
- Key Words/Values
At the conclusion of this meeting, it was decided to form a Steering Group to give action to this discussion.
